Big Ten Theatre Consortium

"If they’re in the classrooms and the audiences, why aren’t women—and their plays—on more stages?" (IowaNow)

This is the first year of the Big Ten Theatre Consortium, which, according to American Theatre (October 2014) [link]:

  • aims to create more roles for "more strong female roles for college students by commissioning new plays by women writers"

  • Playwrights who write for the Big Ten Theatre Consortium receive $10,000, funded by the Big Ten Universies that are participating

  • "only criterion":Plays must include at least seven roles for women
